What Is A Multi-Password SSID?

Alta Labs has deployed a Multi-Password authentication strategy, that is associated with 5 different pre-configured network types. Using Multi-Password authentication, you can create a single SSID, then create as many passwords as you want, under that SSID. Based on the password the device used to join the network, it is then governed by the policies you have assigned to that password.

How to Create Multiple Passwords

  1. Log into manage.alta.inc
  2. Select the site you want to configure, in the upper right hand corner.
  3. Select the "Settings" tab.
  4. Select "WiFi" then set up a new SSID or select an existing one.
  5. Make sure the "Password" option is selected, under the "WiFi Security" section.
  6. By selecting the show more link, you can see the 5 pre-configured network types and their definitions.
  7. Click the "Add Password" button. Open the drop down and select the appropriate network type.
  8. Once selected, you can now scroll down and enter a VLAN (if applicable) to any device using that password. Decide if you that password to be "Rate Limited", and if that password should or should not bypass a schedule or hotspot.
  9. Enter your password or passwords. Be sure to scroll down and hit the save button at the bottom of the page.

You can assign as many passwords as you want to a SSID
