Disconnect entire LAN
To prevent conflicts on your local network, start by identifying where your LAN is connected and unplug that until we complete the initial configuration of the Route10.
Remove existing router or setup bridge/ip-passthrough according to ISP instructions
If you have another router in place, please also remove it from your network. Some modems may have a combined router component, which could require additional configuration in order to allow your Route10 to connect. Contact your service provider for details.
Plug in W1 or W2 (SFP+)
When looking at the Route10 from the front side where all the ports are located, the interface on the far left is W1. The right-hand interface is W2, which can be used with an SFP+ module for up to 10Gbps connections.
Visit Internet Setup Wizard
The easiest way to get online with the Route10 is by plugging in a laptop or workstation pc to a LAN port of the Route10. Open a web browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1.
Note: Since firmware version 1.3v and later, you may also find the setup wizard at setup.lan or setup.localdomain.
You may also use the Alta Networks app from your mobile device.
The setup wizard will walk you through configuring your internet connection.
Warning: The following steps may require details from your internet provider. Please contact them to request any necessary configuration values.
Setup internet
Click the Setup internet button to get started.
Note: If you have a local controller and have already configured your Route10 on it before, you may input the local DDNS for that controller here instead.
Confirm which WAN interface you have connected
Ensure that you select the correct port corresponding to where the internet connection is plugged in.
Configure your IP address settings
Most connections will simply use DHCP/Auto here. If your ISP offers you a static address or PPPOE connection, they should be able to provide you with the necessary details.
Define VLAN tag
Your provider may require a VLAN tag in order to correctly connect your router.
Clone a MAC address
Some providers will only authorize a single MAC address at a time when allowing connections to the internet. You may try to clone it here by inputting the MAC address of your prior router. Otherwise, you will need to contact your ISP so they can authorize your Route10 on their network.
Set the link speed
Most connections will automatically determine their link speed, but you may manually configure it here.
Adopt your Route10
Login at https://manage.alta.inc. Make sure that you are configuring the correct site by confirming it in the top-right menu.
Click Setup and wait until the Connected label transforms into traffic graphs.
Configure your LAN
Refer to our article on configuring VLANs here. Edit VLAN1 in order to change your default subnet.
Connect your LAN
You may now begin connecting the rest of your local network. If you have a large network, consider adding only 1 segment at a time to reduce potential congestion or conflicts.
