What is load balancing?
Load balancing is a technique to spread client connections across multiple WAN uplinks. This means you can saturate a 1Gbps internet connection on your laptop, but your tablet will still have plenty of bandwidth because it runs across your secondary WAN. Our Route10 implements MAC address-based connection stickiness, ensuring that a single client device will never have its traffic flow interrupted.
How to enable load balancing
Navigate to the Networks tab in the management interface (https://manage.alta.inc or Alta Networks mobile app). Click the Route10 icon, then the interface in which your internet uplink is connected. Edit the WAN configuration by clicking the pencil icon, expand the Advanced section, and finally define the Metric.
Repeat this process for your second (and additional) WAN interface. For each Metric, ensure that the value is always the same.
Warning: Differing values will result in failover mode instead. See here for our article regarding that topic.
