Firewall Rule Scheduling

Alta Labs allows you to schedule when firewall rules are enabled or disabled. This lets you automatically control when firewall rules are enforced, such as restricting access to specific services during certain hours.

To start, navigate to Settings → Firewall → Filter. Create or select the rule you want to add a schedule to. For details on creating a firewall rule, please refer to Creating Firewall Rules .

You can also create schedules for Port-forward/NAT rules using these same steps.

Creating a Schedule

To create a schedule from a firewall rule, click the + icon next to the Schedule setting.

When creating a schedule, you can configure the following:

  • Name - Give the schedule a name that clearly identifies its purpose.
  • Schedule - Choose whether the schedule should turn the associated firewall rule on or off during the defined time blocks.
  • Users can request access during down-time - This can be left set to Off, as this setting only applies to AltaPass passwords . It allows clients to request access when Wi-Fi connectivity is scheduled to be disabled.
  • Defining time blocks in the week - Click and drag across the weekly grid to create the time blocks when the selected action should apply.

Once you have configured the schedule, save it.

Schedules can be created directly from a firewall rule or managed independently under Settings → Networks → Schedules. Schedules associated with the current Site will appear when Only show current site is checked. Uncheck this option to view schedules created and/or used on other Sites you manage.

Assigning a Schedule to a Firewall Rule

After saving the schedule, you must select it from the Schedule dropdown in the firewall rule configuration before saving the rule.

Once applied, the firewall rule will follow the configured schedule, automatically enabling or disabling the rule during the specified time blocks.

If you do not see your schedule in the Schedule dropdown, you may need to uncheck Only show current site to view schedules from other Sites you manage.

Example: Scheduling a Firewall Rule to Deny Guest Network Access

  1. Navigate to Settings → Firewall → Filter and click Add.
  2. Select the Guest Network Firewall Group from the Source dropdown. For more information about Firewall Groups, refer to the Creating Firewall Rules article.
  3. Set Zone Out to Any.
  4. Create a schedule by clicking the + icon. Select Turn on and define the time blocks when you want the rule to be active.
  5. Save the schedule, then select it from the Schedule dropdown in the firewall rule.
  6. Click the Drop (ignore) icon next to the Save button.
  7. Save the firewall rule.

Schedule Usage

Schedules can be reused across multiple supported features, allowing you to manage schedules from one location rather than creating separate schedules for each use case. Examples include:
