What is a site?
Think of a site as an analogy for a physical location.
In most installs, you’ll have the equipment at a single physical location, or site. That site contains all of the configuration and authentication information for all of the Alta devices that are managed to that site.
If you install a customer at 123 Main Street, you likely wouldn’t want them to have the same settings as your customer at 9359 9th Street. Each SSID, VLAN setup, VPN configuration, etc. should be isolated to a single site.
You are allowed unlimited sites at no additional cost. To create a new site:
- Sign in to your account at https://manage.alta.inc or use the mobile app
- In the upper right corner (upper left corner for mobile apps) there is a Site selector
- On mobile apps, the Site selector is only available from the Dashboard tab
- Click the Site selector
- Click Add A New Site at the bottom
- Name the Site, we recommend something unique to the site such as the address or the customer’s name
- Optionally, add an icon to more readily identify the Site in the Sites list
- Click Confirm
What if I do want settings to match across multiple physical locations?
That’s also something that can be done.
For example, you can assign an SSID to any number of sites. This would allow for you to be able to make a single change, such as changing the password for the WiFi, and it be applied to all sites that share that SSID while maintaining each individual site’s ability to have its own, unique SSIDs if desired.
If you would like to have an SSID on multiple sites:
- Sign in to your account at https://manage.alta.inc or use the mobile app
- Ensure you are on the correct site
- Go to Settings
- Go to WiFi, which is the default page
- Click the SSID you want to expand to an additional site
- Look for the Sites section, which should already have your current Site name listed
- Click into that box and start typing another Site name, it should auto suggest eligible matching Sites
- Once you’ve populated all the desired Sites, click Save at the bottom
With the Site Manager, we wanted to make it as easy as possible for you to review and quickly identify any issues within the networks you manage.
Site Manager
Log into manage.alta.inc, click the drop down menu in the top right corner of your screen, then select the Site Manger.
Now you will be presented with a list of all the sites you have set up or have been invited to manage. The screen below shows you the total number of sites you manage, the number of Alta Labs devices connected or disconnected at a particular site, and the number of devices that need firmware updates.
You can sort by site name, network device count, or by sites with devices that need updates. You also have the ability to copy a site and its configurations. You can do that by pressing the copy button next to the trash can button shown below.
You can also delete a site by pressing the trash can button.
