Think of Profiles as customizable templates for WiFi settings. While Profiles will mostly be used in creating Vouchers (please see this article for Vouchers, they can also be applied to AltaPass(es) for quick and easy configuration.
Profiles are a site-wide setting.
Getting to Profiles
There are a couple of ways to get to Profiles
- Settings > Networks > Profiles
- Settings > WiFi > Select an SSID > Expand an AltaPass
- Settings > WiFi > Advanced > Vouchers
Precedence
It’s extremely important to note that, if there is a conflict between the AltaPass configuration and the Profile configuration, the AltaPass configuration takes precedence. Let’s use this screenshot as an example:
Now, 3 settings conflict between AltaPass on the left and the Profile on the right.
- VLAN
- Download Rate
- Upload Rate
In this case, provided nothing else is overridden, the VLAN will be 30 with a 150mbps download and a 150mbps upload.
It’s also worth noting that some settings only apply when the profile is associated with an AltaPass password as opposed to a Voucher. For example, the duration shown on the Profile is ignored if the profile is associated with an AltaPass password. But it would still apply if the profile is associated with a Voucher and the Voucher code is used for authentication.
