What Is a Multi-Password SSID?
Alta Labs has deployed a Multi-Password authentication strategy, that is associated with 5 different pre-configured network profiles. Using Multi-Password authentication, you can create a single SSID, then create as many passwords as you want under that SSID using our patented AltaPass technology. Based on the password the device used to join the network, it is then governed by the policies you have assigned to that password.
How To Create Multiple Passwords
- Log into https://manage.alta.inc
- Select the site you want to configure, in the upper right hand corner.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Select WiFi then set up a new SSID or select an existing one.
- Make sure the Password option is selected, under the WiFi Security section.
- By selecting the show more link, you can see the 5 pre-configured network types and their definitions.
- Click the Add Password button.
- Enter your passwords.
- Click the save button at the bottom of the page.
Settings
By clicking the purple button to the left of the password, you can configure more granular settings. Each password can have its own unique configuration applied here.
Network Profiles
- Standard: Typical network with less than 100 WiFi devices.
- Large: Optimized for hundreds to thousands of WiFi devices.
- IOT (Internet of Things): Restricted to Internet and local incoming connections only.
- Internet: Restricted to Internet only.
- Guest: Restricted to internet and IOT devices only.
Warning: Some IoT devices may need certain multicast protocols in order to perform the initial setup of the device. If you're experiencing issues getting a new IoT device (including Google Home, Alexa, or any other device that uses a mobile app) to join the network, try switching the Password Type to Small, perform the setup, then switch the Password Type back to what is desired for that network.
VLAN
If you have defined a VLAN (see here) then you may associate it to this password.
DL Rate (Mbps)
Limit the maximum download speed per client in megabits per second.
UL Rate (Mbps)
Limit the maximum upload speed per client in megabits per second.
Max Devices
Limit the maximum number of simultaneously connected clients. Setting a value will show an additional option - Allow Oldest Clients. Leaving it unchecked will cause new clients to replace the oldest clients. If checked, when the maximum is reached, any new clients will be rejected instead. In both cases, a captive portal will alert the client that the device limit has been reached.
Bypass HotSpot
If you are using a HotSpot (see here), then you can allow users to bypass it.
Ignore Schedule
WiFi scheduling can be ignored (see here), allowing users to stay online when the WiFi is disabled.
Bypass Filter
Bypass the content filter (see here).
Locked
Locked passwords are accessible only to admins and users with the All Password Access permission. Admins can view and manage these passwords, while non-admins with access can view only. Use the Locked setting to keep specific Wi-Fi credentials private. Permissions can be set when inviting users or adjusted later in their profile via Site Management as seen below.
